Job Details

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Albion College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science at the assistant professor level to begin August 2018.  We seek applicants who have a demonstrated willingness and potential for excellence in teaching computer science to a diverse student body at the introductory and advanced undergraduate level. Albion’s teaching load is three units per semester.  Individuals with an active research agenda are sought, especially those with a strong interest in working with undergraduates.  Successful candidates will receive a competitive compensation package including startup funds.  Ph.D. in any area of computer science or related field preferred, ABD will be considered.

The department currently offers a computer science minor, but we expect a new hire would help shape the curriculum by modifying existing courses and developing new courses leading to rebooting a major in computer science that is consistent with national curriculum models.  A demonstrated ability to use innovative pedagogies is desirable.

We have a vibrant departmental culture with a weekly colloquium series and other activities for student and faculty engagement. The department is housed in the Science Complex, a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver facility, with modern technology enhanced classrooms including a departmental computer lab.

Full consideration will be given to candidates who have completed applications by October 23, 2017, with other applications reviewed until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, current CV, copy of graduate transcripts, evidence of teaching excellence (such as a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, other course material, or course evaluations), a research statement, and three letters of reference to http://apply.interfolio.com/45536.
