One (or more, pending funding) Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science position(s). We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to undergraduate teaching with an anticipated start date of August 20, 2018.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • PhD in computer science, software engineering, or related field required by contract start date

Highly Desired

  • Demonstrated area of expertise that can contribute to teaching coursework in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Graphics, or Security

  • Commitment to teaching undergraduate computer science courses for students in multiple programs

  • Evidence of teaching ability

  • Strong interest in involving undergraduate students in research

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach an average of 12 credit hours of coursework each semester in lower and upper level courses in computer science; involvement in curriculum development; research and scholarly activity; academic advisement; course and program assessment of student learning; and service to the department and the university are expected along with other duties as assigned by the department chair.

 

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Department has 27 full-time members, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in mathematics, computer science, statistics, and related areas. The department received the 2008 University of Wisconsin System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Academic Departments and Programs. The department is committed to student centered and technology enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., course management and on-line homework systems), and interactive distance education courses. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in research and the department has hosted an NSF-sponsored REU site in Mathematics in the past. In May 2016, the department actively contributed to UW-Stout’s hosting of the National Science Olympiad tournament. The Computer Science program’s concentration in Game Design and Development continues to be nationally recognized, ranking 15th in the Princeton Review’s 2017 Top Game Design programs.  

 

The department offers all the core courses necessary for the Computer Science (~190 students) and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (~185 students) programs as well as coursework supporting the Computer Engineering program (~150 students). It also provides service courses (in all three disciplines: statistics, mathematics, and computer science) for the numerous programs within the university. The department also has a Master's Degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Typical computer science class size is about 30 students.

Menomonie, Wisconsin, is a town of 16,000 located in the beautiful Chippewa River Valley, 25 miles west of Eau Claire and 60 miles east of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
