Job Details

The School of Computing (SoC) at the University of South Alabama (USA) seeks a distinguished scholar at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank to fill a nine-month, tenure-track appointment to begin as early as August 15, 2018. Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Health Informatics, or a closely-related field from an accredited institution, a track record of success in securing external funding, and be proficient in spoken and written English.

The ideal candidate will provide leadership for the M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs, with reassigned time each semester and a summer stipend to coordinate the graduate curriculum, mentor students and colleagues, and pursue a scholarly research agenda. The ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, colleges, and administrative units is essential. Salary is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

USA is located in Mobile, the oldest city in Alabama, which features a year-round climate conducive to outdoor recreational activities and proximity to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. USA is a DoD/DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance, an SAP Alliance partner, and has ongoing research projects sponsored by federal agencies. SoC offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level. The B.S. degree programs include Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, and Health Informatics. The SoC is located in Shelby Hall, a 155,000 square foot, world-class computing and engineering facility, built with green and sustainable practices designed to provide a spacious environment for teaching and research. The high-tech facility houses multimedia classrooms and laboratories in systems analysis & design, risk assessment, business intelligence, information security, cyber security, digital forensics, web & virtualization, systems architecture, and graduate capstone.
