Description of Duties: The Dean in the College of Engineering duties include, but are not limited to: clarifying and promoting the vision, mission and focus of the College; committing to building a world-class College, and advancing SUNY Polytechnic Institute as a key part of its leadership. Strong advocacy skills on campus and in the community, adeptness to recruit and retain high quality faculty in a demanding environment, and financial and budgetary acumen along with a capacity to lead a comprehensive and diverse academic unit are expected. This position has the authority to assist in determining, creating, and affecting policy for the Institution.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: A Doctoral Degree from a College or University accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization with responsible experience in academic administration at the departmental or similar level and successful experience in college or university teaching.

Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate, collaborate, and possess the ability to convey messages and information clearly, concisely and that are in support of the vision, mission and values of SUNY Poly. Must possess the flexibility and capacity to oversee, prioritize and execute a variety of strategic partnerships and initiatives and multiple projects concurrently.

Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of compliance in a regulatory environment covering research and educational program administration.

Must be able to manage complex business matters and transactions in a dynamic environment.

Must demonstrate leadership qualities to effectively supervise a team of professional employees. Must be able to travel both on site and off site. Must be able to respond to requests or questions outside of normally scheduled work hours.
