Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong is committed to the highest international standards of excellence in teaching and research, and has been at the international forefront of academic scholarship for many years. The University has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines spread across 10 faculties and over 140 academic departments and institutes/centres. Faculty of Engineering
As one of the University’s founding faculties, the Faculty has been providing well-rounded curricula and high-quality engineering education in global knowledge-based economy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The missions of the Faculty are to innovate through world-class education and cutting-edge research, to conduct interdisciplinary and international collaboration to overcome regional and global challenges, and to create impact on knowledge-based economy through technology development and entrepreneurship. The Faculty has been making significant contributions to Hong Kong and the engineering community world-wide by training top-rated engineers. Throughout the years, the Faculty has boasted a network of over 20,000 graduates as our alumni. Today, the Faculty of Engineering continues to attract the best students from Hong Kong to study the many diverse programs, with an annual average intake of about 600 undergraduate students, 1,000 research and taught postgraduate students. The Role
The Dean will provide strong academic and strategic leadership to the Faculty.  He/She will provide a supportive research environment, commit to excellence in education, foster a collegial culture in the Faculty, and have a vision for developing and implementing new strategies for the Faculty, in alignment with the overall vision and strategic plan of the University.  He/She will be responsible for building a close and extensive network with the community, fund-raising, and furthering the mission of the Faculty and the University.  The Dean will report to the Senior Management Team via the Provost, and will have full budgetary responsibility.  The position carries the status and title of Professor.  The successful candidate is expected to assume the position as soon as possible and latest by July 2018.  The appointment will be for a five-year term, subject to renewal.

Qualifications and Qualities
•    Demonstrated outstanding record of scholarly achievement, teaching excellence and international research reputation
•    Proven senior administrative experience in a premier university, with effectiveness in managing and optimizing resources and the ability to inspire and lead a Faculty with diverse interests
•    Global outlook combined with a commitment to excellence in Engineering education, and high-impact research for the University and Hong Kong as a whole, as well as a vision for promoting technology in Hong Kong
•    Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and team-building skills
•    Demonstrable success in fostering interdisciplinary research/cooperation, fundraising, knowledge transfer, and partnership development
•    Appreciation of the importance of innovation and technology
