Engineering and Computer Science Faculty

The Computer Science Department in the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE) at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applicants for a tenure track position in computer science. We have a preference for hiring at the assistant professor level, although other academic ranks will be considered. A Ph.D. in computer science or related field is required at the time of appointment, September 1, 2018.

The computer science department at USD supports an undergraduate program in computer science, an embedded software concentration in the undergraduate general engineering program, and a masters program in cyber security engineering. Candidates should have a commitment to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active research program. Our department is student-centered, and so we seek applicants willing to foster close student-faculty interactions, both inside and outside of the classroom, and promote undergraduate research. We are interested in candidates whose scholarship and teaching will complement and broaden our program, and we encourage candidates in all areas of specialization to apply.

This position is part of a group of faculty positions in the SMSE clustered around the theme of design thinking. Our students participate in a capstone, senior design project. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate how their work can support diverse, possibly interdisciplinary, teams of students in these and other projects.

USD provides a high quality undergraduate education by emphasizing small classes and a high level of faculty-student interaction. The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering has recently ranked among the top 15 programs at non-Ph.D. granting institutions by U.S. News and World Report.

To apply, please see our ad for the cluster of faculty positions at http://www.sandiego.edu/jobs/ and search for IRC24200. Please submit by December 15, 2017:

  • Your curriculum vitae.
  • Statement of teaching philosophy.
  • Statement of research interests and plans.
  • A statement of how your research and other experience can help you create and support senior design projects for computer science students.
