The Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS) focuses on teaching and research in intelligent systems, human centered design, and cyber security. This new tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level is intended to advance our teaching and research in computational social science that leads to novel and effective ways of modeling and simulating challenging societal phenomena. The ideal candidate would demonstrate a computationally-driven, cross-disciplinary approach to modeling human behavior as it relates to solving practical problems in areas such as politics, health, education, economics, ecology, energy, culture, arts, design, music, security, or any other human endeavor. This position is part of the Data Science Initiative at UNC Charlotte. It will help create bridges to Systems Design, Intelligent Systems, Complex Systems, Human Centered Design, Security Analytics, Social Sciences, and the Humanities.

UNC Charlotte is North Carolina's urban research university. Located in the state's largest metropolitan area, UNC Charlotte is among the fastest growing universities in the UNC System. The College of Computing and Informatics is experiencing significant growth in student numbers and externally funded research. The Department of Software and Information Systems has established relationships with local industry partners and is seeing a surge of interest in its core areas of teaching and research. The Data Science Initiative (DSI) is an industry-university-state partnership, led by the College of Computing and Informatics, the Belk College of Business, the College of Health and Human Services, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and includes collaborative partners in other academic departments. DSI offers extensive University-wide academic, research, and executive education programs, augmented with an integrated data analytics platform.

In joining the Department of Software and Information Systems you will become part of an exciting time of new curriculum development and innovative research. The department offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and will supervise doctoral dissertations. The yearly teaching load is three courses plus supervision of research groups. Teaching opportunities will be based on current course offerings and the individual's areas of scholarly expertise. Current faculty members have strong research programs with substantial funding from both federal agencies and industrial partners.

Salary will be highly competitive for an Assistant Professor level appointment.
