Faculty Position in Health Informatics
Department of Software and Information Systems

The Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS) in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) currently has four focuses of teaching and research: intelligent systems, health informatics, human centered design, and cyber security. This new tenure-track faculty position is intended to advance both research in health informatics and analytics within SIS and teaching in the Professional Science Masters in Health Informatics, a core program of the Data Science Initiative at UNCC jointly supported by CCI and the College of Health and Human. Specific research areas of interest include integration and modeling of large scale, heterogeneous health data; AI in health and healthcare; privacy and security of health data and devices; and human centric design of new health informatics technologies.

UNC Charlotte is North Carolina's urban research university. Located in the state's largest metropolitan area, UNC Charlotte is among the fastest growing universities in the UNC System. The College of Computing and Informatics is experiencing significant growth in student numbers and externally funded research. The Department of Software and Information Systems has established relationships with local industry partners and is seeing a surge of interest in its core areas of teaching and research. The Data Science Initiative (DSI) is an industry-university-state partnership, led by the College of Computing and Informatics, the Belk College of Business, the College of Health and Human Services, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and includes collaborative partners in other academic departments. DSI offers extensive University-wide academic, research, and executive education programs, augmented with an integrated data analytics platform (http://dsi.uncc.edu).

In joining the Department of Software and Information Systems and the Data Science Initiative, you will become part of an exciting time of new curriculum development and innovative research. The department offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and will supervise doctoral dissertations and play a significant role in the DSI's Health Informatics PSM program. The yearly teaching load is three courses plus supervision of research groups. Current faculty members have strong research programs with substantial funding from both federal agencies and industrial partners.

Salary will be highly competitive for this appointment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, or a related field, as well as a strong commitment to research and education.
