We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic academic to enhance our research and teaching in computer human interaction, with a focus on digital games and play. This opportunity is motivated by sustained demand in our Bachelor of Games and Interactive Environments, and by the potential to extend our research in games and wellbeing.

This critical position will sit within the School's Computer Human Interaction (CHI) Discipline whose games research aims to understand their potential to support health, wellbeing, education, environment and inclusion.

The CHI Discipline brings an integrated design/IT/human perspective to address National Research Priorities. Our research involves communities of youth, elderly people, remote and Indigenous Australians and people of all abilities. We also collaborate with ecologists, birding groups and environmental organisations to research and build novel systems to support e-science and citizen science.

Skills in technical implementation and games development will be viewed favourably, as will expertise in applied game design, and experimentation in innovative genres and platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality, innovative teaching in topics relevant to contemporary games design, development and implementation, and software development more broadly.
  • Conducting collaborative research that builds on expertise in games and software development and delivers impact from the discipline of computer-human interaction.
  • Publication of academic research papers, supervision of research staff, and attracting government and industry-funded research income.
  • Service to the university through mentoring, participation in relevant academic committees, assistance with student recruitment activities and extra-curricular student events (e.g. gaming or coding competitions, hackathons).
  • Contributing to the profession through appropriate engagement with conference organisation, journal manuscript reviewing.
  • Supervision of student projects at both undergraduate (Bachelors) and postgraduate (Masters and Doctorate) levels.
  • Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.


  1. Research experience, including a solid track record of effective independent contribution to high-quality publications
  2. Record of excellence and effectiveness in scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning at tertiary level
  3. Strong knowledge and experience of digital games and play (including player experience, game design, interaction design). Industry experience in games and software development would be viewed very favourably.
  4. Experience with successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research student projects.
  5. Success in attracting research funding from either government or industry sources.
  6. Skills in game development, technical implementation are highly desirable
