The University

Monash University seeks to improve the human condition by advancing knowledge and fostering creativity. It does so through research and education and a commitment to social justice, human rights and a sustainable environment.

The Opportunity

The Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University is seeking an established academic leader, with a demonstrated track record of excellence in research and teaching as well as extensive experience working in or with healthcare institutions, to lead our research in the area of digital health.

The appointee will be expected to provide strategic direction in digital health within the context of the faculty’s overall strategy, raise the visibility of digital health and health informatics, build a strong and cohesive academic group across the Faculty and University and lead multi-organisational initiatives in digital health.

A member of the prestigious Australian Group of Eight Universities, and ranked in the top 80 in the world across all four major University rankings, Monash University is the only Australian university with a dedicated Faculty of Information Technology. Our research and education programs cover the full span of IT, from Computer Science and Software Engineering, through Networks and Security, to Business Information Systems and the Digital Humanities.

The faculty has a strong interest and many on-going initiatives in Digital Health, and collaborates with the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and various healthcare institutions in addressing research and educational challenges related to introduction of the modern technologies for better healthcare. There is also an opportunity for international collaboration with Institute of Digital Healthcare at University of Warwick through Monash/Warwick alliance, Intelligent Healthcare initiatives at Monash, Malaysia and South Eastern University, China, as well as Harbin Institute of Technology.

The Faculty is in a growth phase and is investing in areas of strategic and cross-disciplinary research such as our Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics (COSI), Centre for Data Science, the recently established Oceania Cybersecurity Centre, and our innovations labs such as SensiLab and Immersive Analytics. Further strategic appointments in the area of digital health are planned.

This position is a full-time continuing position (i.e. a permanent position, as per the UK system, or tenured, as per the US system); however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated. Monash is participating in the Athena Swan Charter to enhance gender equality in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) disciplines, and we particularly encourage female candidates to apply.

The faculty offers a generous start-up package including start-up research funds, scholarships for PhD students and a reduced teaching load for the first two years.

The appointment will be on a continuing basis.

A competitive remuneration package will be negotiable for an outstanding candidate. Relocation travel, removal allowance and salary packaging are available.
