The College of Computing & Informatics, Drexel University, is seeking a Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is a chief academic and administrative leader for the College, and serves as a key member of the College’s leadership team. The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs works in close cooperation with the Dean, the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Operations, the Department Head for Computer Science, and the Department Head for Information Science to sustain and advance the academic mission of the College.

The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will play a key leadership role in the academics of the College. S/he will have a strong record of executive-level academic administrative experience that demonstrates leadership and planning skills, and a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service that is commensurate with appointment to academic rank of associate or full professor.

The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for the overall academic planning and assessment, instructional support, curriculum development for the College.  The position also oversees all academic areas within the College that support curriculum development, including, but not limited to: admissions and recruitment, academic advising, course scheduling, scholarships, and external reporting/accreditation. S/He leads in shaping the College`s academic policies and practices, in sustaining academic standards, and in fostering a productive collaboration with other units of the College and the University. The Senior Associate Dean fosters a climate that encourages interdisciplinary, active and collaborative learning, supports disciplinary strengths, promotes student academic success, enriches College diversity, and enhances the intellectual discourse of inquiry and discovery.

Essential Functions

  • Provides leadership in program development.
  • Provides oversight and management of curriculum planning, including enrollment management, program reviews, academic catalog revisions, instructional support, and management of the planning, preparation, and modification of timetable/schedule of classes.
  • Oversees accreditation and other reports, as well as with strategic planning academic initiatives.
  • Responsible for fostering a climate that encourages interdisciplinary, active and collaborative learning; supports disciplinary strengths
  • Develops and administers academic policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Sustains academic standards, and in fostering a productive collaboration with other units of the college and the university
  • Coordinates activities related to assessment, academic planning, advising, and enrollment management.
  • Provides a liaison function in the management of resources related to academic programs.
  • Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with the school’s standing committees.
  • Promotes student academic success, enriches college diversity, and enhances the intellectual discourse of inquiry and discovery.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing academic programs in CCI related areas
  • Leadership in strategic thinking, organization, management and communication; a good team player
  • High energy, strong drive and commitment
  • Forward and out of the box thinker in 21st century C&I education, strong knowledge of market demand and trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CCI academic program portfolio
  • Qualified for full professorship in either a CS or IS department
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Science or a related field
  • Undisputable personal and academic integrity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a focus on openness and transparency.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • At least three years of administrative experience at the department or university level.
  • Competitive candidates will have a genuine understanding of the teaching mission and the importance of providing undergraduate and graduate students with the highest quality educational experience.
