Idaho State University Polytechnic Campus

Idaho State University’s Idaho Falls campus is transitioning toward placing a much greater emphasis on upper division and graduate education. The Polytechnic Initiative at Idaho State University provides state funding for nine faculty lines located on the Idaho Falls campus with the goal of developing strong research ties to the Idaho National Laboratory. These positions will have the possibility of joint appointment with INL.

Two new state buildings currently under construction will be shared between the Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, and Boise State University. One of the buildings will be dedicated to Cybersecurity and the other to High-Performance Computing and developing Artificial Intelligence related to modeling and simulation.

At present, through the Polytechnic Initiative, we are searching for two Computer Science faculty to complement the two recently hired Nuclear Engineering faculty. The focus of the remaining five faculty positions has not been determined but will be synergistic with these positions.

Key Responsibilities

Typically teach three courses per semester, conduct research, and publish in quality, peer-reviewed academic journals and conferences. Teaching (50%), Research (35%), Service (15%). Anticipated start date is August 2019.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related degree by the time of appointment. Exceptional ABDs with teaching experience may be considered. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of independent scholarly activity, indicated by refereed publications, works under review, and/or works-in-progress. All areas of computer science research will be considered. Applicants must be able to conduct high quality teaching at the collegiate level. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a wide range of courses.

Candidates at the associate level must have a minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching and research at the rank of Assistant Professor (or equivalent).

  • Research interest in cybersecurity or artificial intelligence

While there is not a citizenship requirement, extensive collaboration and/or consideration for a joint appointment with the Idaho National Laboratory may only be available to US citizens. One goal of these faculty lines is to enhance ISU’s collaborative research efforts with INL personnel in the areas of high performance computing and cybersecurity so US citizenship is preferred.
