The School of Engineering invites applications from outstanding individuals for the following position at the Assistant Professor level.

Computer Engineering (Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence)

In December 2018, the University of Guelph launched the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI). CARE-AI’s mission is to advance multidisciplinary AI training, research and the responsible application of AI to foster economic growth and improve life.

The University of Guelph, School of Engineering, seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Engineering affiliated with CARE-AI. The successful candidate is expected to engage with CARE-AI, contributing to one or more of its three core pillars: AI methodologies; AI applications; and AI responsibility. All areas of AI will be considered, including but not limited to explainable and responsible AI, AI with humans in the loop, machine learning (including deep learning and reinforcement learning), ubiquitous AI, scalability and optimization, as well as subareas targeting specific applications such as healthcare, education, robotics, or the physical and social sciences and hardware architectures for deep learning.  

The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program funded by external funding sources and provide service to the University and the engineering profession. Qualified applicants will be expected to teach core computer engineering undergraduate courses and graduate courses related to one or more of the pillars of CARE-AI.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering and have earned a doctorate in computer engineering or a related field; have outstanding research and publication record, and have teaching experience at the university level. Post-doctoral academic/industrial research experience is desired. Preference will be given to the candidate who will combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, interdisciplinary research that will expand and complement our current research strengths.  Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario within five years of hiring is a requirement of this position.

The University of Guelph has well-established and accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Systems and Computing, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. At present, the School is comprised of over 55 faculty members, 25 staff and technicians, 1700 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students.
