Located on 380 lush acres in the heart of Long Island, approximately 45 minutes from New York City, Farmingdale was named as one of the best colleges in the North in US News and World Report 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Farmingdale is proud of its many graduates with 91% indicating that they are continuing their education or are working in their field of specialization. The Department of Computer Systems, a growing department with 600+ major students offering a wide range of day and night classes, invites applicants to apply for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start date of Fall 2018. Qualifications required of all applicants include a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline, a strong commitment to teaching, and an established research agenda. Particular attention will be given to candidates who have demonstrated proficiency in teaching object-oriented programming, database, or advanced web courses. The ability to develop and teach advanced courses in candidate's area of expertise will also be recognized. The normal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester. The ability to work in a collegial and collaborative work environment is essential.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentation, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school and college-wide committees. The faculty member may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online and traditional face-to-face classes.


  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or closely related field from a regionally accredited university, a strong commitment to teaching, and an established research agenda required.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • ABD in Computer Science, CIS, MIS or closely related discipline with a dissertation defense scheduled prior to August 20, 2018, will be considered.


  • An established record of scholarship and publications in the field with independent teaching experience.
  • Industry or large software system related experience is a plus.

This is a full-time, 10 month faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, January 26, 2018 and ending Thursday, February 8, 2018, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • Salary: $70,000, may increase commensurate with experience
