The Department of Computing Sciences at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, 10 month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science to begin August 2020.  We particularly welcome applications from scholars from populations historically underrepresented in the academy and/or who have experience working in diverse populations.

Major Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science in one or more of the following areas: Computer Networks (hardware and software), Cybersecurity, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems; conduct high-quality research; supervise students in research and project activities; advise and mentor students; and, participate in service to the department, college, and community.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, or in a closely related discipline with Master’s level expertise in Computer Science by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. 
  • ABD (all but dissertation) applicants are considered.
  • ABD hires must earn their doctoral degree within six months of appointment.
  • Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an active research program.
  • Demonstrated willingness and desire to mentor students from diverse educational backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to exemplary teaching.
  • Ability to develop new courses in areas of specialization.
  • Ability to effectively engage faculty, staff and students in a collegial and collaborative manner.

Department Description

The department is composed of 10 full-time faculty members who have varied interests in teaching and research. We have a large undergraduate program serving approximately 260 majors and 30 minors. The Department is home to two ABET-accredited programs in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, with the Computer Information Systems program being the first such program accredited in the State of New York.   • 45 miles east of Buffalo, which is the home of the University of Buffalo, the Bills NFL franchise, and the Sabres NHL franchise;
  • 75 miles from Niagara Falls USA, which features the American, Horseshoe and Bridal Veil Falls;
  • 140 miles from Toronto, the largest city in Canada and the home of the University of Toronto; and
  • 350 miles from the many attractions of New York City.

The area features a number of technology companies, including Paychex, Xerox, and Kodak, and other large companies such as Wegmans and Excellus. Rochester and its suburbs feature some of the highest-quality public, private, parochial, and charter schools in New York State. The region is known for its natural beauty, including Lake Ontario, the Genesee River (with three major waterfalls in Letchworth State Park), and the Finger Lakes region with its notable vineyards and wineries.
