Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Associate Professor and Director of Computer Science. This tenure-track faculty position will begin August 2019. The faculty/director member will teach 5-courses each academic year (20 total credit hours), spanning the range of courses in the undergraduate computer science curriculum. Director responsibilities will include scheduling computer science courses, managing CS curriculum assessment, and providing vision for the program. Additional responsibilities include advising students, and providing departmental, college, university and professional service. Summers and Jan-terms provide special opportunities for research and development. The department, college, and university are strong supporters of undergraduate research and faculty-directed student projects.

Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely-related discipline. Must have a demonstrable record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and possess viable research interests with a record of ongoing scholarship. The university is seeking an individual with the skill to lead the Computer Science program in alignment with Samford’s vision of developing core competencies in our partnerships with various digital industries to integrate digital knowledge into every discipline. The department is committed to growth through quality instruction, undergraduate research, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative programming, and strong relationships with the business community. Knowledge and experience in fields such as machine learning, data science, data visualization, and other computational science fields are especially welcome. Other fields will be considered. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is expected.
