Position Summary

The Data Center Technician (DCT) Instructor is responsible for the development and delivery of the computer science courses, student support and advising, coordinating and consulting with the DCT advisory board and industry partners, adjusting the curriculum and delivery modes, assessing student learning outcomes, and contributing to various College-wide initiatives. This position is located in Boardman, Oregon at the Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) Workforce Training Center.

Essential Functions

  • Teach and develop curricula in assigned courses in accordance with course descriptions as outlined in course syllabi and schedule requirements.
  • Scale the program to meet current and future workforce needs.
  • Create and distribute course syllabi with the objectives, measurable outcomes, purposes of the course, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements and required texts.
  • Maintain assigned work hours and provide regularly scheduled office hours for students.
  • Comply with the policies of the Board of Education and/or administrative regulations as they apply to the instructor as a member of the faculty.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards of the teaching profession.
  • Organize and lead advisory board meetings, as well as actively engage employers to refine the curriculum in order to meet industry needs.
  • Participate in course and program assessment.
  • Use the Learning Management System (Canvas) to assess outcomes, post syllabi in course sections, and record grades.
  • Actively participate in departmental planning, shared governance work with the College, and In-Service trainings.
  • Communicate with the Department Chair and program stakeholders.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach, revise, and create Computer Science/Data Center Technician courses.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic student backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in related areas.

Required Education

Qualified applicants must possess a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field and have a minimum of one year of successful teaching experience. Alternative credentials may be a minimum of three years of teaching experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related field.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience teaching CompTIA’s A+, Network+, Server+, and Linux+ certifications.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, online/hybrid course delivery, and distance education practices.
