Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Computer Information Systems. The candidate will perform teaching and related faculty functions in areas of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

As a community college in the CUNY system, our students primarily take general education and lower division courses often for university transfer. Contractual teaching load is 26 contact hours for the 2019 academic year (typically 3 – 4 course sections); summer optional.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses. The candidate is also expected to participate in and contribute to departmental and College activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development, pedagogical initiatives and preparation of grants, and to provide academic advisement and contribute to student activities sponsored by the department. Evening or weekend teaching may be required. Position to start in Fall 2018 or Spring 2019.

The Business Department offers several programs including an AAS in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and an AS in Business Administration. The CIS group is actively developing articulation agreements with CUNY four year colleges and expanding its programs to meet industry demands for qualified candidates. The group is also working with other Business faculty to integrate technology skills with mainstream business courses, including Statistics, Finance, Marketing and Accounting.

Queensborough has partnered with the Department of Education (DOE) and the multinational software corporation SAP, to develop an Early College Initiative (ECI) High School in Business Technology. The BTECH high school is located in a public school building in Queens. As part of this initiative, high school students will begin taking CIS (Computer Information Systems) courses offered by the Business Department during their junior year of high school. The courses are taught at Queensborough by Queensborough Business Department faculty. This position will include teaching BTECH high school students as part of the teaching workload.

All degree programs offered by the Business Department are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The Business Department computer labs contain up-to-date, well maintained equipment, and each student has an individual workstation. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university, plus relevant computer technology industry experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or MBA in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or a related technology field strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated professional record in a related field.
  • Expertise in any or all key areas to include: Coding, Web Design and Development, Networking, Data Security and Operating Systems.
  • Previous undergraduate teaching experience in a broad range of computer information system courses.
  • Experience in teaching a diverse student population.
  • Experience with learning environment platforms.
  • Ability to cooperate and work with others for the good of the institution.
  • An innovative perspective and non-traditional approach to pedagogy preferred.
