The Department of Computer Science in the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University invites nominations and applications for a 9-month full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Lecturer. We welcome candidates with broad background in computer science topics, especially artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, systems, software engineering, or computer science education. This faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science consistent with the individual’s background. The expected teaching load will be four courses in each regular fall and spring semester. The Department of Computer Science at SMU offers bachelors, masters, professional doctoral, and PhD degree programs spanning the fields of Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Software engineering.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: A terminal degree in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

The position begins on or about August 1, 2021. The search committee will begin its review of the applications on or about April 29, 2021. The committee will notify applicants of its employment decision after the position is filled. Hiring is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background check. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

  • a 10 - 15 minute videoed teaching demonstration on a CS topic appropriate to a first/second year undergraduate CS course[1],

  • a selection of evidence of successful undergraduate teaching (course evaluations, for example), and
  • contact information for three professional references.
