One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor in Computer Science

Trinity University is seeking candidates for a one-year visiting assistant professor appointment in the Computer Science department. An ideal candidate will have a Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field. We also accept a candidate who has a Bachelor’s in Computer Science with significant industry experience. 

The position will be selected from candidates with expertise in any area of Computer Science. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for teaching courses in computer science, including courses in their domain of expertise, as well as introductory and upper-level courses required for all of our majors.

Trinity University is a top-ranked small private liberal arts and sciences university that values high quality undergraduate teaching and supports high impact undergraduate research. Undergraduate enrollment is approximately 2400, including students from all areas of the United States and many foreign countries. Trinity has highly selective admission standards, and is becoming one of the nation’s highest quality primarily undergraduate institutions. Trinity’s principal focus is on undergraduate education, though there are select Masters programs. In addition to robust liberal arts and sciences, Trinity has departments in Business, Engineering, and Education, affording an interesting mix of students as well as opportunities for faculty collaboration. Further encouraging collaboration, the Computer Science department is housed in the Center for the Sciences and Innovation (CSI), built in 2013 and housing all of the STEM fields and Entrepreneurship. University priorities include the development of critical and creative thinking skills, excellence in written and spoken communication, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary research and courses.

You will be joining about 270 faculty members at an attractive residential campus overlooking downtown San Antonio, a city rich in heritage and ethnic diversity with a population in the greater area of 2.2 million. San Antonio is a particularly lively and vibrant city regarding computing. San Antonio is second in the nation (after the Washington, D.C. area) in information assurance and cyber-security; and significantly due to San Antonio, Texas is second (after California) in technology in general. With a strong diversity of established companies and startups, San Antonio provides excellent resources in information assurance & security, bioinformatics, and cloud computing.

The Computer Science Department, 50 years old, is well integrated into campus life. We currently have 9 tenured or tenure-track Computer Science faculty, with diverse research and teaching interests including artificial intelligence, game theory, physical simulations, bioinformatics, databases, parallel computing, security, automata & computation theory, formal verification, and computing ethics and history. Our students are among the best in the University and secure excellent offers for jobs and graduate schools. Recent graduates are now employed at Google, Facebook, IBM, GitHub, USAA, and more; and those pursuing graduate degrees have attended Harvard, Princeton, Rice, Univ of Massachusetts, and more. Several former students have founded successful companies, including RackSpace and the Denim Group.
