The University of Central Florida is dedicated to increase the prominence of its Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department. It is a member of the Safety Research Using Simulation (Safer-Sim) UTC center. It has recently partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and MetroPlan Orlando which have been awarded $11.9 million by the Federal Highway Administration to test several smart transportation and autonomous and connected vehicles technologies in the East Orlando area including UCF’s main campus. The CECE department is also leading a smart cities initiative to synergistically explore the wide-ranging technological advances towards better serving urban residents. As part of the ongoing smart cities initiative, CECE department is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate whose research is related to connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV). The postdoctoral associate will work on interdisciplinary ideas with multiple faculty members at UCF’s transportation division. The applicant will be expected to conduct fundamental and top-notched research in CAV technologies and/or applications to be implemented in the proposed smart city testbed at UCF campus. The expected duration of the postdoctoral associate is two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year.

Qualified applicants should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas with strong applications or relevance for connected and autonomous vehicles integrated with transportation infrastructure: computer vision, image processing and recognition, cyber-physical systems, deep learning/machine learning, wireless communications and distributed networking, and control and optimization. Candidates with proven expertise in CAV technologies, testbed implementations, or application development are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other relevant fields.

The anticipated starting salary for this position is around $50,000 per year in addition to benefits, and commensurate with education, experience, and area(s) of demonstrated expertise.
