Teaching Professor
Computer Science Cybersecurity

Xavier University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, Teaching Professor of Computer Science. The Teaching Professor position is annually-renewable, with the potential for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with rolling two-year contracts. Applicants should have an M.S. in Computer Science or related area, completed before starting this position. Preferred starting date for this position is Spring 2019 though a starting date of Fall 2019 will also be considered.

Xavier’s computer science program seeks a colleague to help us build a strong NSA/DHS accredited cybersecurity program. This program is part of our larger effort to embed rigorous community-engaged and socially-relevant computing throughout our computer science curriculum. Duties include teaching primarily undergraduates as well as building and coordinating relationships with corporate, government, and internal partners to provide cybersecurity students community-engaged and immersive learning experiences. We are interested in either industry professionals who want to bring their experience to an academic institution or in academics who are interested in building bridges to industry. Candidates should have experience teaching or training others in cybersecurity, and documented expertise in cybersecurity. Candidates should be interested in helping grow a diverse, inclusive student community.

Xavier University provides significant support for faculty. The Xavier Center for Teaching Excellence provides training sessions, consultations, and faculty learning communities. Xavier’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion provides resources to help faculty support diversity and have meaningful classroom dialogue around diversity issues. The Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning provides faculty support for community-engaged, immersive curriculum development including the Academy for Community-Engaged Faculty and active participation in the process of engaging community partners. Our department has already made excellent use of these resources and looks forward to the additional and enhanced collaborations we can develop in cybersecurity as we add a new colleague.

The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. U.S. News and World Report has ranked Xavier 20 years in a row among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities. Information on benefits, including tuition remission, can be found at Xavier.edu/hr/benefits.

A complete application includes a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a teaching statement that describes your approach to active learning and how your teaching at Xavier University might contribute to a learning community that values diversity; a statement describing how you would approach building cybersecurity partnerships in the community; graduate transcripts; and three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin on September 30, 2018.
