The Department of Computer Science at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with the appointment starting in Fall 2019. The Department seeks dynamic and productive candidates who are committed to academic excellence.

Department of Computer Science

The Department (web: http://csc.csudh.edu) offers a B.S. degree in Computer Science[1], a M.S. degree in Computer Science, a M.S. degree in Cyber Security, a B.S. degree in Information Technology, and a B.A. degree in Computer Technology. The Department with its eight full-time and 16 part-time faculty is serving a total of about 700 majors and growing.


The mission of the Computer Science Department is the creation and transmission of knowledge about the computer science discipline and profession. The mission has three components: teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and service. Foremost in the department mission is the commitment to excellence in all of three areas.

The department strives to prepare students well for either graduate school or a professional career. Our graduates are expected to be able to make the connection between theory and application. We support our faculty efforts to expand the body of knowledge, disseminate their findings through publication and consulting, and engage in intellectual inquiry. Our faculty are involved in curriculum development, textbook writing, and pedagogical innovations. Faculty members are encouraged to play a service role on the campus, throughout the CSU system, and in the local community.

The responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Published research is expected and is a requirement for tenure and promotion.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Computer Science (or in a closely related discipline with extensive academic work in Computer Science) at the time of appointment.
  • An ability to teach a wide range of courses in Computer Science curriculum; the language of instruction is English.
  • An ability to contribute to the body of knowledge in the computing discipline, evidenced by a record of published research in mainstream Computer Science.
  • Experience in working with students or colleagues from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred /Desired Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to the candidates with a record of published or funded research in the following areas of Computer Science: Computer Networks, Computer Security, Data Science/Big Data, and Theoretical Computer Science. Candidates with a strong record of published or funded research in other core areas of mainstream Computer Science will be given preference if their teaching expertise meets Department's current instructional needs. Industry experience in any of the areas specified above is desirable.

Employment Requirement – Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
