The IT University of Copenhagen wishes to appoint a Vice Chancellor to start on 1st January 2019. The IT University is an independent education and research institution dedicated to the digital world. From digital innovation and design to computer and data science.  

The IT University has an active research environment with an extensive PhD programme and offers a range of research-based full-time programmes, part-time programmes and single subjects within IT.  

The mission of the IT University is to provide internationally leading teaching and research which enables Denmark to become exceptionally good at creating value with IT. The IT University wishes to create and share knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity.  

The IT University is a dynamic university with a staff of approx. 800. The IT University has respectful and open social conventions, and in everything we do we endeavour to conform to the IT University’s values: direction-finding, forthcoming and accountable.  

The Vice Chancellor refers to the Chairman of the Board of Directors and participates in Board meetings along with the Pro-rector and the University Director. The Vice Chancellor, together with the Pro-rector and the University Director form the IT University’s Executive Management.  

The primary duties of the Vice Chancellor  

Within the parameters set by the Board of Directors, the Vice Chancellor is responsible for the day-to-day management of the IT University. The Vice Chancellor must reinforce the IT University’s position as the university that combines the highest academic level within IT research and IT education with value-creating interaction with the surrounding community. Therefore, the Vice Chancellor must ensure increased research activity at the highest international level, including by increasing the volume of externally funded research in collaboration with Danish companies. Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor is at the forefront of realising an increased volume of outstanding graduates, which will contribute to Denmark educating the skilled IT specialists that are so badly needed now and in the future.  

Personal competencies  

Upon appointment, the Board of Directors will place great importance on the future Vice Chancellor being a recognised researcher in at least one of the IT University’s disciplines and has proven leadership experience, including experience in management, development and organisation of research and educational environments in larger organisations. Furthermore, the Board of Directors is looking for a Vice Chancellor who:  

  • Is trustworthy with high integrity and loyalty  
  • Has knowledge of and experience of university matters of a national and international nature, including the university’s interaction with the surrounding community  
  • Has the ability and willingness for leadership with vision, strategic overview and effectiveness with the required combination of responsiveness, interpersonal skills and delegation of tasks and responsibilities  
  • Has active listening skills and is excellent at motivating and engaging staff and students  
  • Has the ability to establish and maintain the appropriate network  
  • Is an accomplished and results-orientated negotiator and communicator
  • Speaks and writes Danish 

Terms of employment  

The position will be filled in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The position will be filled either as a fixed-term or permanent position at salary grade 38, with the possibility of negotiating a personal allowance in accordance with the requirements and the applicant’s qualifications.
