The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Albion College invites applications for a full-time three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science, to begin in August 2021. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. While initially a visiting appointment, this position has potential to be converted to a tenure-track position after the initial three-year term.

We seek a colleague who has demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching computer science at the introductory and advanced undergraduate levels and is committed to teaching 3 courses per semester at a liberal arts college. Interest in working with local businesses, nonprofits, strategic partnerships, and government entities to support computer science internships and collaborative problem-solving opportunities for Albion students is desirable. Albion College is an anti-racist institution. This position will actively promote diversity, belonging and equity through critical and compassionate communication and strategic outreach efforts to various students, faculty and staff (e.g., historically under-represented, first-generation, undocumented and DACA students, LGBTQ students).

Candidates with previous experience in a liberal arts college environment and teaching students from diverse backgrounds, and with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold a doctorate in computer science or a related field; all fields of specialization will be considered. ABD candidates are welcome to apply, but the successful candidate must hold a doctorate by August 2021. Individuals with an active research agenda are sought, especially those with a strong interest in working with undergraduates. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Albion College is a private liberal arts college of approximately 1500 students, situated in a culturally diverse community in south central Michigan within an hour’s drive of three major universities: the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Michigan State University, and Western Michigan University. Albion is dedicated to the highest quality in undergraduate education and committed to diversity as a core institutional value. The College is committed to a policy of equal opportunity and non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability as protected by law, in all educational programs and activities, admission of students, and conditions of employment. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. Visit our website at www.albion.edu.
