Watson for Genomics is a Software as a Service, which provides peer-reviewed, molecular evidence to help oncologists create personalized treatment strategies for their patients based on results from genetic profiling of tumor DNA.

Watson for Genomics analyzes and categorizes genetic alterations that are related to cancer progression and provides a list of potential therapeutic options that target each alteration including investigational therapies (clinical trials). We are a diverse group at Watson for Genomics with backgrounds in data science, software development, UX design, bioinformatics, and cancer biology.

Watson Health is seeking an enthusiastic Cancer Scientist with a background in hematological malignancies who will act as subject matter expert (SME) to expand our offering into this field. As part of the Analytical team of Watson for Genomics, you will be responsible for curation of genetic alterations, their association with drugs, and possible resistance mechanisms as they relate to the treatment of hematological malignancies. This position combines deep understanding of the molecular basis of cancer, demonstrated clinical experience as well as the ability to translate procedures used by clients (e.g. cancer institutions) to requirements and tasks to be implemented in the Watson for Genomics system. As part of our team and a domain expert, you will also have a role in training the cognitive process, interpreting the domain, and validating output.

Successful candidates will possess the following Key attributes:
  • Thrive in a highly collaborative environment and have a positive outlook and impact with the team.
  • Strong knowledge of cancer biology, cancer genomics and targeted therapies for cancer treatment with a specialization in hematological malignancies. Have a good understanding of statistical models, data modeling and bioinformatics.
  • Candidates with previous hands-on experience working in a personalized medicine company or a closely related field, understanding the whole process starting from the laboratory to variant analysis end-to-end will be preferred.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 8+ years working in the field of cancer biology and genomics demonstrated by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals of cancer research
  • A strong background in hematological malignancies
  • Extensive experience in the identification of relevant publications as they relate to genomic alterations and targeted cancer therapy
  • Practical experience in how genomic data is applied to clinical usage in cancer treatments
  • Experience / familiarity with cancer genomics databases
  • Experience / ability to understand clinical data / treatment guidelines
  • Excellent writing skills
  • PhD level in cancer biology


Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
