The Department of Computer Science seeks applicants for a tenure-track position beginning August 2026, at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline before or within the first year of the start of the position. We also invite candidates who are currently working in industry.
The successful candidate will offer core and elective computer science courses across all levels, supervise senior capstone projects, and contribute to Whitman College's general education program. The standard annual teaching load is five courses.
The department invites applicants to join our community of faculty and student scholars who engage with computing in the classroom, in academic research, and in interdisciplinary collaborations. The department strives to foster a welcoming learning community, with an emphasis on active learning and collaborative problem solving, for students who reflect the full diversity of Whitman's student body. Our faculty and students engage in diverse forms of scholarship, including collaborations in artistic production and scientific applications, community-based research and learning with local schools and indigenous populations, and pedagogical research, in addition to traditional conference and journal publications.
In addition to traditional areas of computing research, we welcome candidates working in interdisciplinary, emerging, and socially engaged areas. Whitman College provides a generous pre-tenure sabbatical program and professional development support for both research and teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential to sustain an active scholarly or creative research agenda and to participate in faculty governance, mentorship, or other forms of service in ways that fit their interests and talents.

Salary Range: $83,700 - $92,500
