Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at Hope College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall 2026. Outstanding candidates at higher ranks will also be considered. We welcome applicants from all areas of computer science, with preference for those whose interests broaden and complement the department's strengths.
Hope's Computer Science department is a vibrant, collegial community of teacher-scholars committed to undergraduate education and inclusive excellence. Our small class sizes are taught exclusively by dedicated faculty, allowing for personal attention and mentorship. Students and faculty work together on research and software development projects, and build strong relationships in and out of the classroom.
Teaching responsibilities include:
- A 3-3 teaching load (three courses per semester), covering courses from introductory programming through advanced electives in your area of specialty.
- Creating an engaging and supportive learning environment, with close faculty-student interaction.
- Academic advising, career guidance, and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
Scholarly and professional expectations include:
- Establishing a productive research or scholarly program involving undergraduates, whether through traditional research or collaborative software development projects.
- Publishing work in journals, conferences, or other appropriate venues, with student co-authors.
- Seeking external funding to support research, curricular, or scholarly initiatives.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (ABD considered with expected completion by August 2026).
- Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, with a passion for engaging students in both the classroom and through research or software development projects.
- Evidence of the potential for (or record of) productive scholarly activity involving undergraduates, including publications and/or external funding.
- Ability to teach a broad range of courses across the undergraduate curriculum, including introductory programming, core CS topics, and upper-level electives in the applicant's area of expertise.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
