What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a CUSTODIAN (SPECIAL)
- Perform a full range of custodial duties and related assignments
- Duties include cleaning, finishing and polishing floor surfaces.
- Dusting and cleaning of walls, upholstery and cleaning of padded partitions; cleaning or shampooing carpets; performance of other janitorial and associated duties as assigned.
- Requires lifting and moving up to 60 lbs. frequently. Exposure to dust, dirt, and cleaning solutions.
- As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC) and must pay monthly membership dues or agency fee.
Qualifications We Require
- MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 2:30 pm to 1:00 am Monday thru Thursday (4 ten hour shifts)
- Certifications in (OS1) Light Duty Specialist, Vacuum Specialist, Restroom Specialist, and Utility Specialist, or be willing to gain all certifications.
- Maintain in clean and orderly condition any designated laboratory, shop, or office area including restrooms.
- Requires continuous standing and walking with frequent exertion of 21 to 60 lbs.
- Perform team cleaning methods.
- Requires training on Material Safety Data Sheets. Requires training on Material Safety Data Sheets. Must have a current and valid New Mexico drivers license.
- Position requires performance of Team Cleaning Methods and knowledge of Material Safety Data to assess location safety prior to cleaning.
- Daily duties require physical repetitive exertion and the ability to walk, crouch, stoop, reach, carry, and lift for long periods of time utilizing equipment assigned for the task.
- Daily assignments include moving office furniture and equipment as required to expose floors surface areas for cleaning and mark to indicate location.
- Sweep floor or vacuum with a backpack vacuum area and dispose of debris.
- Prepare and apply floor scrubbing and stripping solutions and operate electric- powered scrubbing machine, hand mop, remove dirt, grease, markings and old finish from floor surface.
- Rinse floor and operate industrial wet n dry vacuum, and/or hand mop to pick up suds, detergent, and rinse water.
- Spread floor finish or other surface conditioners. Dust windowsills and wash walls, doors, and partitions as necessary including blinds and furniture as necessary.
- Return office furniture and equipment to original locations upon completion. Move janitorial tools, supplies and equipment to new cleaning location.
- Remove and replace floor panels as necessary for cleaning subfloor surfaces.
- Clean carpets with cleaning compounds, shampooing solutions, spot removers, or other cleansing agents. Spread cleaning compounds, and scrub areas by hand or with scrubbing machine. Remove cleaning agents with industrial extractors.
- Operate electric-powered, sweeping and scrubbing machine, sprayers, and clean floor surfaces. Service machine by changing brushes, filling or emptying water and solution tanks, recharging all battery-operated equipment as needed.
- Perform regular janitorial and associated duties as required. Report machine malfunctions, adjustments or other discrepancies to supervision, lead or other designated employee.
- Emergency clean up as needed, including snow removal within ten feet of door.
Qualifications We Require
Required Testing:
Applicants must meet the minimum pre-requisites to be scheduled for testing. The applicant will be contacted and scheduled for the next available test date. All applicants must be prepared to test upon application submittal. Once successful testing has been completed, the hiring manager will be notified.
Full consideration will not be given to applicants that have not met all of the pre-requisites including testing. Interviews will not be scheduled until the applicant has successfully test-qualified and has been selected by the manager as a top applicant. Passing the test does not guarantee an interview or a selection.
If the applicant is not able to schedule testing within the time constraints of the position posting, selection timelines, and the available test dates, they will not be considered for the position. It is imperative that applicants are immediately available for testing in order to provide the best opportunities.

- Candidate to be a self-starter and demonstrate effective interpersonal, teaming, analytical, problem solving, and communications skills.
- Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to SNL values.
- Basic computer skills are desired candidate will be required to use a computer to receive departmental and lab corporate communications, process timecards, receive corporate training and for general correspondence and scheduling meetings.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
