FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The College of Staten Island, an accredited senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), seeks applicants for appointment to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Computer Science, with preference given to those working in artificial intelligence, machine learning, security, data science, mobile computing, distributed computing, or cloud computing; however researchers in other areas of Computer Science are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate a successful teaching record, exceptional research productivity through a solid, peer-reviewed publication record; have experience initiating research projects and the credentials appropriate for appointment to the doctoral faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate computer science courses. The candidate will be also expected to establish a nationally recognized research program, as well to participate in faculty service.
The College of Staten Island (CSI) serves about 10,000 students who represent the diversity of New York City and the Borough of Staten Island. CSI's internationally recognized faculty passionately engage in scholarly and artistic activities, and together with a strong professional staff, lead students through transformational learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. The College is situated on a 204-acre site with residential housing. CSI offers ~60 undergraduate programs, 30 master’s level programs, and 3 doctoral programs. CSI participates in several Ph.D. program offerings - through a consortium model with the CUNY Graduate Center, CUNY’s principal doctoral granting R1 institution: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Neuroscience, Physics, Physical Therapy, and Psychology.
The Computer Science Department offers the degrees of BS in Computer Science, BS in Computer Science-Mathematics, BS in Information Systems and Informatics, AAS in Computer Technology, and MS in Computer Science. The BS in Computer Science has been continuously accredited by ABET since 1989. QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications include:
- PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline.
- Research and teaching interest in one or more of the following specializations: artificial intelligence, machine learning, security, data science, mobile computing, distributed computing, and cloud computing; however researchers in other areas of Computer Science are also encouraged to apply.
- Applicants who demonstrate potential for attracting externally funded research grants in these fields are particularly desired.
The chosen candidate is expected to maintain a reputable academic record in theoretical and/or applied research in Computational Science, establish vigorous externally funded research programs, demonstrate a sustained commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and participate in doctoral education through the CUNY-wide program at the CUNY Graduate Center. The successful candidate shall recognize his/her shared responsibility for departmental and college service and will cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
COMPENSATION
$82,928 - $90,375
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
